With so much happening in our society today, it can feel overwhelming and difficult to navigate ways to help causes you support. However, Forever Yours Lingerie proves that Instagram is an outlet through which a network of change can be established.

A model, muse and dear friend of Forever Yours Lingerie, known to her fans as Elly Mayday was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer at 25.

“Elly made it her mission to help women advocate for their own health and bring awareness to Ovarian Cancer, dubbed the silent killer of women. It is called that because there is no screening test for Ovarian Cancer and often by the time women have a biopsy to diagnose it, they are at a late stage of the disease. Sadly, after a 5 year battle with Ovarian Cancer, Elly passed away on March 1, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. It was Elly’s dream to host a high tea event that raised awareness for this disease that there is no test for and raise funds for Ovarian Cancer Canada to help with research into creating an early screening test.”

When Forever Yours Lingerie was approached to host this event in Elly’s memory, they were honored and agreed immediately. As a tribe we attended the #OneHellOvaWoman high tea fundraiser, last Sunday on September 29th. It was inspiring and eye-opening!

Here’s What Went Down

The afternoon featured guests sharing their favorite memories of Elly. A guest speaker from Ovarian Cancer Canada spoke about signs, symptoms and the importance of early detection. We enjoyed a salon-style fashion show featuring fashions from FYL, New World Designs and Cherry Velvet. The modeled outfits and few other neat items, could then be bid on auction style at the event all through Instagram. Guests followed @onehellovawomanauction on Instagram and placed their bids in the comment section. The winners were then contacted through direct message the following day, on September 30th. 100% of all money raised from this event was donated to Ovarian Cancer Canada in memory of Elly. Fundraising With Social Media

Social media is an important element of the success of the #OneHellOvaWoman high tea fundraiser. From promoting the event to holding an Instagram auction, Forever Yours Lingerie did one hell of a job turning followers into donors. They offered an extraordinary experience by sharing the story of Elly Mayday, purpose of the event and kept the conversation going on Instagram by hosting the auction on their main platform. Whether you’re planning a large or small fundraising event, you want to make sure your using social media to get the word out.
